PROGRAM BACKGROUNDThe UMANT Scholarship Program was established in October 1995. Its purpose is to provide support for deserving, academically promising students enrolled in graduate programs at universities in the North Central Texas area; specifically, those seeking degrees in public administration, urban affairs, or a closely related field that impacts local government. In 2001, UMANT chose to honor William J. Pitstick by naming the scholarship for him to recognize his years of public management service in Texas and for his unwavering support of the organization and its members. AWARDMultiple scholarships are available in amounts between $500 and $2,500. The award is to be used for tuition and fees for the recipient and is not renewable. ELIGIBILITYApplicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the scholarship:
FACTORS IN SELECTIONDemonstrated academic achievement and evidence of a high degree of motivation toward a career in local government will be the primary selection criteria. The student’s potential, as evidenced by transcript and personal statement will also be evaluated. Additionally, UMANT involvement will be favorably considered in selection. The submission deadline for consideration is Friday, September 20, 2024. Finalists will be notified by Wednesday, October 02, 2024 to schedule an interview with the Scholarship Committee, if necessary. Scholarship Recipients will be recognized at the 3rd Annual North Texas Leadership Symposium on Friday, October 18, 2024 and are invited to attend.
