Have you ever wondered about the impact of urban planning on residents' health and well-being?

Join UMANT and UMACT for an exciting conversation with speaker Mark Fenton on the topic of Healthy Communities!

Via Zoom on Friday, September 9th from 12PM to 1PM

Elected officials and professional staff in communities of all sizes and types are increasingly interested in elements of urban planning and implementation that yield the triple bottom line: economic vibrancy; environmental sustainability; and public health & well-being. Many are realizing that designs which support walkable neighborhoods; compact, mixed-use development patterns; functional human scale business districts; and multi-modal transportation networks are foundational to attaining that triple bottom line. Mark Fenton is an MIT-trained engineer and subject matter consultant for the Centers for Disease Control and for local and regional governments across the country working at the nexus of planning, transportation, and public health. Coming out of the COVID pandemic he sees great opportunity for all communities large and small, urban, suburban, and rural, to focus on the very best policies and practices to both reduce the burden of chronic and infectious diseases, while restoring local economies and building more environmentally resilient landscapes. He’ll share evidence-based best practices and a pilots-to-policy implementation approach focused on inclusive community engagement and initial low-cost demonstration and implementation options.
